Dec. 10, 2017 | DTLA

The Assembly co-produced the album release of MIGRANTS with Portland-based violinist-looper Joe Kye and Princess Grace award-winning dancer Ching Ching Wong, formerly of Northwest Dance Project.

Attendees ascended to the second-floor DTLA loft, Navel LA, where they inhaled Kobunga Korean barbecue during the opening act. During intermission, pork belly and rice were served to all. The evening combined original thoughtful storytelling, covers of pop songs, and compositions about the immigrant experience — and even asked guests to plot their own trajectories on a shared map.

Guest performers included spoken word artist Jason Chu, projection designer Darin Reyes, and dance artists Byron Roman, Chris Emile, Tatiana Barber, Charbel Rohayem, and Lindsey Matheis. Katie Scherman and Lara Wilson choreographed.
